Community Building Partnerships

NSW Government

In 2019, the NSW Government website was given the green light to migrate over 500 Government websites into one central, customer-centric site. To support the consolidation and migration of these websites I was employed to assist the NSW Government Digital Channels team in creating new reusable components, designing template layouts, wireframing, generating high fidelity prototypes, analysing quantitative and qualitative data, participating in user research and implementing UX/UI improvements to the current design system. This role also required the application of design best practices and standards while focusing on accessibility, human centred design and a mobile first approach.

In order to achieve this I built strong working relationships and effectively collaborated with:

  • the Digital Design Systems team

  • internal and external stakeholders

  • internal and external developers

  • designers and researchers from the UX team

  • content designers

  • accessibility specialists

Project overview

Community building partnerships (CBP) is a program that awards grants for community infrastructure projects.

CBP was one of the original agencies migrated into nsw.gov.au. Majority of the content provided by the CBP team could be migrated into existing templates and components, however they required some key new components to be designed to cater to their customer needs.

The Challenge

The stakeholders needed a creative solution for displaying the past three years of successful grant recipients. There were thousands of applicants and were originally being displayed in tables nested inside accordions. There was no easy way for users to navigate through these and surface the details they were looking for. There was also no efficient way to continuously update these details and Content Designers and stakeholders would manually change these updates in the CMS.

This presented the opportunity to design a component that would be easy for Content designers to implement data while also giving customers a user friendly design that could search and filter through the data presented.
